In 2012, Leip\u00adzig Uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adty Libra\u00adry (UB Leip\u00adzig) reques\u00adted a URN<\/a><\/abbr> ser\u00adver, which at night sum\u00adma\u00adri\u00adzes all new URNs crea\u00adted during the day and pres\u00adents them rea\u00addy for retrie\u00adval by the Deut\u00adsche Natio\u00adnal\u00adbi\u00adblio\u00adthek (DNB)<\/a>, so that they can be included in the DNB index. Then as now, the DNB work\u00aded with OAI<\/a><\/abbr> cli\u00adents to retrie\u00adve the URNs. Ste\u00adfan Frei\u00adtag<\/a>, mean\u00adwhile head of soft\u00adware deve\u00adlo\u00adp\u00adment at Leip\u00adzig Uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adty Libra\u00adry, first imple\u00admen\u00adted an OAI-PMH<\/abbr> ser\u00adver for URNs using the xepi\u00adcur<\/a> for\u00admat. In 2018, it was re-imple\u00admen\u00adted using more cur\u00adrent tech\u00adno\u00adlo\u00adgies (inclu\u00adding Java 11, vert.x\u2011Framework<\/a>).<\/p>\n At the same time, the idea came up to make METS<\/a><\/abbr>\/MODS<\/a><\/abbr> files also publicly available. METS\/MODS files are crea\u00adted during the Kito\u00addo digi\u00adtiza\u00adti\u00adon work\u00adflow and are used for IIIF<\/a><\/abbr> pro\u00adces\u00adsing. IIIF is a won\u00adderful tech\u00adno\u00adlo\u00adgy for exchan\u00adging and pre\u00adsen\u00adting image files, but it lacks the func\u00adtion\u00ada\u00adli\u00adty to pre\u00adsent detail\u00aded biblio\u00adgra\u00adphic infor\u00adma\u00adti\u00adon, which in turn is aggre\u00adga\u00adted in the METS\/MODS data. For this reason, Ste\u00adfan Frei\u00adtag has modi\u00adfied the OAI ser\u00adver and set up a new ins\u00adtance. Sin\u00adce then, the METS\/MODS data are made available via this ser\u00adver. To make this inter\u00adface more effi\u00adci\u00adent, the data is tem\u00adpo\u00adr\u00ada\u00adri\u00adly stored in a data\u00adba\u00adse, which in turn is sup\u00adpli\u00aded with data at inter\u00advals from a self-deve\u00adlo\u00adped inter\u00adface (igiL backend).
